Gisteren kreeg ik ook een melding van een aan de gang zijnde "installatie" waar ik me totaal niet van bewust ben.

Schijfhulpprogramma laat geen enkele schijf/volume zien.

Verschillender keren herstart gedaan zonder resultaat.

Schijfhulpprogramma werkt wel in Veilige Modus.
Schijven gecheckt, groen licht.

Ik dacht ik installeer MacOS Sequoia opnieuw.
Eerst een backup maken.

Dan krijg ik dit

Ik snap er niets meer van

Backup is een Lacie D2 4TB Thunderbolt die via een Thunderbolt verloop op mijn iMac Pro is aangesloten.

Ondertussen werkt Schijfhulpprogramma wel weer in de normale modus.

De Time Machine schijf is in orde, maar ik kan nog steedsgeen backup maken.

Ik weet het nu even niet meer....

Ondertussen werkt Schijfhulpprogramma opnieuw niet meer.

Heb natuurlijk maar weinig informatie zo op afstand, maar krijg het gevoel dat je HD of volume niet meer helemaal lekker is.

Ik zou eerst even kijken hoe e.e.a. In een andere (eventueel nieuwe=schone) gebruiker op je Mac werkt. Eerst even uitloggen uit de bestaande gebruiker.

Het opnieuw installeren van een OS is normaliter makkelijk, veilig en probleemloos, dus dat kun je best wel doen.

Het lijkt erop dat Schijfhulpprogramma in de normale modus niet werkt als de Time Machine schijf is aangesloten.

Wat eerst proberen ?
Nieuwe gebruiker of opnieuw installeren van MacOS ?

Aangezien je laatste backup bijna een half jaar oud is zou ik als eerste dit doen:
- Koop een nieuwe externe schijf (€50- €100)
- Voeg deze toe als 2e TimeMachine-schijf
- Zorg dat je een volledige goede backup op die nieuwe backup-schijf hebt

Ga dan verder klooien.

Nieuwe gebruiker aangemaakt en met deze opgestart.
Icoon HD normaal op bureaublad.

Opnieuw opgestart met mijn gewone account.
Icoon HD weer normaal op bureaublad.

Wat eerst proberen ?
Nieuwe gebruiker of opnieuw installeren van MacOS ?

Je hebt het gelukkig al zo gedaan, maar uiteraard eerst die nieuwe gebruiker test (Flix test!). Die is zeer snel en simpel uit te voeren zonder enig risico, en geeft je direct veel informatie.
Als het daar allemaal goed werkt, weet je dat het probleem in principe een software probleem, zoals een conflict of foute app, in je thuismap is, en zeker geen hardware probleem en ook geen macOS probleem.

Ik ging ervan uit dat die backup van mei 2025 een indicatie probleem was, dan wel de verkeerde schijf aangesloten. Je wilt toch niet zeggen dat je nooit eens kijkt mbv het TM menu-icoontje of er wel een recente backup is gemaakt?!
Als dit je enige backup is, dan als de donder an de slag, zoals jaco123 aangeeft.

Welke aansluiting zou je dan adviseren ?
USB-C, Thunderbolt, en welke versie ?

Op een gegeven moment had ik in Schijfhulpprogramma controle over de schijf.

Ik heb ze dan gewist.

Oude backup schijf in TM verwijderd
Nieuw gewiste opnieuw toegevoegd.

Nu lijkt het te werken.



Ook de HD icoontjes staan weer nietjes op het bureaublad en in de Finder.



Kan een corrupte TM schijf al deze problemen veroorzaakt hebben ?

Ik ga dat zeker in de gaten houden.

Vanmorgen na opstart weer dat vreemd HD icoontje.

Opstarten met gastaccount: Icoontje normaal.
Terug naar beheerdersaccount: vreemd HD icoontje terug.

Ik vermoed dat het geen echt probleem is, maar het irriteert wel.

Ondertussen MacOS opnieuw geïnstalleerd.
Na opstart weer normaal.

We gaan zien of het gaat terugkomen, en dan heb ik geen opties meer.

Als het in een andere, nieuwe gebruiker niet optrad, dan zou een herinstallatie niet de oplossing zijn, want het probleem lijkt dan te ontstaan vanuit de thuismap, en die wordt bij een herinstallatie ongemoeid gelaten.
Evengoed wordt er door het opzetten van een nieuw OS een en ander opgeruimd, dus wie weet dat het wel -definitief- heeft geholpen.

Als het in een andere, nieuwe gebruiker niet optrad, dan zou een herinstallatie niet de oplossing zijn, want het probleem lijkt dan te ontstaan vanuit de thuismap, en die wordt bij een herinstallatie ongemoeid gelaten.

Ik ben dus weer op zoek naar een oplossing zonder een clean Install te moeten uitvoeren.

Even opstarten met het "gastaccount" en het icoon is weer normaal.

Terug met mijn account en het fenomeen is er weer.....

Enkel het icoon van de Macintosh HD op het bureaublad en bij "info (voorvertoning)" Zie bijlagen.

Externe opslag is volledig opgelost sinds het wissen van de TimeMachine schijf.

Als je verder geen problemen hebt, dan zou je kunnen overwegen om handmatig die HD-icoon aan te passen. De desbetreffende icoon staat hier:

/System/Library/Extensions/IOStorageFamily.kext/Contents/Resources/
Open vervolgens de Finder, ga naar de Desktop, selecteer de 'Macintosh HD' en open het "Info"-venster door Cmd + I in te drukken of door 'Archief' > 'Toon info' te kiezen in de menubalk.

Sleep 'Internal.ics' naar het kleine pictogram links bovenaan het "Info"-venster. Laat los wanneer je het plusje ziet. Geef vervolgens je wachtwoord in.



Het kan zijn dat je de Finder moet herstarten om de vernieuwde icoon te laten weergeven. Even uit- en inloggen kan ook om dit te bewerkstelligen.

Het lijkt mij een hardnekkig cache probleem te zijn.
Als je hier een EtreCheck rapport neerzet, kunnen we misschien de boosdoener aanwijzen.

Neen. Windows hoort niet thuis op een Mac

Goedzo. Ik kwam het ergens tegen als mogelijk gerelateerd hieraan, maar dat is het dus niet.

Geen schokkende zaken in je rapport op het eerste gezicht. Een mogelijke hint is de 8x crash van LaunchServices daemon (lsd). Misschien helpen de twee tips in dit draadje, een Terminal commando om de lsd database opnieuw op te bouwen en eens opstarten in de Veilige modus:
