Mijn iMac 27” late 2015 wordt wat traag.
Er zit 2x 4 Gb intern geheugen in. Er zijn zijn 4 slots beschikbaar.
Kan ik in de lege slots nu zonder meer 2 stripjes van bijv. 8 Gb bij plaatsen of kan dat niet zomaar.
Ik herinner mij vaag dat geheugenstrips op een of andere manier bij elkaar horen..?

Dat kan gewoon inderdaad, zeker als het in symmetrische 'paren' geplaatst is zoals in jouw geval (dat kon vroeger (?) nog wel eens een klein verschil in snelheid geven). Als je maar Mac geschikt geheugen met de juiste specificaties gebruikt (edit: ik zie dat puk1980 al links geeft). 8 GB is niet per definitie te weinig trouwens, afhankelijk van wat je met je Mac doet. Als je Mac een harddisk heeft geeft het plaatsen van een SSD een veel grotere snelheids-sprong.

Je kan via Finder -> apps -> Hulpprogramma's -> activiteitenweergave -> Geheugen -> geheugendruk (Grafiekje) zien of je te weinig geheugen hebt (rood grafiekje) of genoeg (groen grafiekje)

In dat eerste geval kan je het geheugen upgraden.

De programma’s die vaak door mij gebruikt worden zijn (behalve Safari en Mail) Affinity Publisher, Affinity Designer, Foto’s, Notities, Comic Life. Ik denk dat vooral voor de Affinity applicaties een groter intern geheugen sneller zal werken?
Zullen mappen waar bijvoorbeeld veel afbeeldingen in staan trouwens ook niet sneller openen?

Mogelijk dat er wat verwarring ontstaan is over het begrip traag.
Ik zie regelmatig het strandballetje draaien, terwijl ik bezig ben. Dat kan tijdens het werken in een van de genoemde programma's of bij het openen van een grote map. Dat noem ik traag en vind het irritant, vandaar dat ik een oplossing zoek.

Post je hele EtreCheck eens! En zie puk1980 hierboven, uitzoeken wat het 'runaway proces' is. Kijk ook eens in 'Activiteitenweergave' welk proces veel CPU gebruikt.

Het is wel een lap, hoor    en de 32-bits programma's moeten er nog uit...

Het is wel een lap, hoor   

Blij dat jij het zegt . Ik zie niet meer 'runaway proces' staan in de tekst maar wel 'Other processes' met 48% CPU gebruik. Dus zet 'Activiteitenweergave' eens open en kijk een paar minuten naar de CPU tab gesorteerd op de 2e kolom (hoogste CPU gebruik). Is er een proces dat daar steeds bovenaan staat en bovengemiddeld veel van je CPU gebruikt?

Ik zie daar niets geks staan, volgens mij.

bztransmit was een keer 89,1% (dat zal wel te maken hebben met mijn BackBlaze account?), maar even later 0,9%.
WindowsServer een keer 16,4%. Verder https://www.macfeak.nl en natuurlijk Activiteitenweergave zelf (rond de 2%)

bztransmit zie ik wel steeds terugkomen met soms vrij hoge waarden. Kennelijk wordt er dan wat bijgewerkt, want een aantal minuten later zie ik de procesnaam niet meer vemeld worden.

Ik zag in het Etrecheck rapport dit staan:

Inderdaad, dat is Backblaze. Is BB nog bezig met z'n eerste backup? Ik zie namelijk dat je het pas onlangs hebt geïnstalleerd. Ik gebruik het overigens al jaren en heb nooit ervaren dat het mijn Mac trager maakt. Heb je BB op 'automatic' staan in de voorkeuren?

Lijkt me niet, er staat ook 2 GB available dus het is niet dat je Mac op het randje functioneert. Ook daarvoor kun je in Activiteitenweergave kijken, het grafiekje 'Geheugendruk'. Groen is goed.

Ik heb een week of wat geleden 3 "oude" externe HD's uitgezet.
Een nieuwe grote externe HD (4 Tb) geïnstalleerd met de data van die oude HD's.
De TM backup HD gewist en alles opnieuw opgestart (backups van iMac en externe HD), dus ja, BackBlaze zal nog wel aan de gang zijn...

Ja, BB staat op automatic.
