Ik ben in t bezit van een Imac 10.1, OS X 10.6.7 van ongeveer 1,5  jaar oud. Sinds kort loopt hij steeds vast. Met name als ik in Safari meerder vensters open heb staan, blijft hij hangen en is er geen beweging meer in te krijgen. Alleen een harde stop doet nog iets. Ik heb al hardwaretest gedraaid, de autorisaties hersteld, opgestart in veilige modus maar niets helpt. Bovendien start hij zeer traag op en wordt soms gevraagd om opnieuw op te starten. Er glijdt dan een soort vaag scherm naar beneden. Bij navraag in verschillende Applestores krijg ik verschillende antwoorden. De een zegt: alles opnieuw installeren, de ander zegt een hardware-probleem.
Wie heeft een idee? Graag hulp!

Heel vervelend. Ik denk ook dat het een hardwareprobleem is. Wat je ziet is een kernel panic en kan het gevolg zijn van slecht werkende randapparatuur. Je moet daarbij denken aan printer, externe HD of een usb hub o.i.d. Je kunt zien of je dit probleem nog steeds hebt wanneer je alles hebt losgekoppeld (op toetsenbord en muis na wanneer die niet draadloos zijn) Het vastlopen kan verder als oorzaak een defect harde schijf hebben of een geheugenreepje dat niet meer 100% functioneert. Om het probleem nader te onderzoeken kun je de log met het programma console in de map met hulpprogramma's bekijken. Speciaal is dan de log van de laatste kernel panic interessant.

Het hoeft geen hardwareprobleem te zijn. Zie bijvoorbeeld dit draadje.

Kan iemand uitleggen hoe ik kan zien of het zo'n kernel panic is, waar vooral kan ik dat zien? Kortom:hoe doe ik dat?

Nee. In ~/Library/Logs (linkerkolom) zit een item that CrashReporter heet. Daarin worden de eigenlijke crash reports opgeslagen.

Mwah, vaak is het hardware maar ik zie hier alleen een verkeerd-gealloceerde geheugen crash in Safari.
Al mijn KP's tot zover zijn allemaal software gerelateerd geweest en hoewel ik er nog niet helemaal uit ben, heb ik erg afgelopen week nog 3 achter elkaar gehad met wat Native Instruments spul (soft- en hardware).

Marijke, zou je opnieuw de Console.app willen induiken en onder /Library/Logs dan het driehoekje "DiagnosticReports" willen openen? Hierin staan de .panic logs waar de Kernel Panics in vermeld staan.

Je kunt proberen je fontcaches te legen met een onderhoudsprogrammaatje als YASU o.i.d. en je moet je lettertypes maar eens controleren op defecten met lettertypecatalogus in de programmamap.

Een Mac heeft 3 types softwaredefecten:
- crash; een app begaat een fout en wordt uit het geheugen verwijderd, het system kan hier instabiel van worden, maar dir moet niet noodzakelijk.
- hang; een applicatie of systeemproces blijft ergens op wachten (netwerk, input, ...), maar een ander programma zorgt ervoor dat dit proces eeuwig zal nlijven vastzitten. Deze dingen halen meestal het systeem onderuit zodat je die rare strandbal als muis krijgt en niks meer kunt doen. Een "freeze" is een hang waarbij het probleem zo diep zit dat zelfs de muis niet meer werkt.
- kernel panic; dit wijst op een systeemfout die erg dicht bij de hardware zit. Meestal is dit een hardwaredefect (kapot RAMlatje, stukje van je moederbord dat niet doet wat het moet doen, ...)

De crashes zijn een symptoom van een dieper probleem, geen oorzaak op zich. Ik heb zo'n voorgevoel dat je met een corrupt lettertype zit: de hint van jefvanhalle kan je probleem misschien verhelpen.

Indien niet moet je eens in de console op jacht gaan. Je zal daar ergens een bestandje panic.log vinden (hierin zitten alle kernel panics) en een hangreporter (de naam spreekt voor zich zeker . : P) kijk hierin eens of je geen entries kan vinden zaarbij het probleem NIET door fontd wordt veroorzaakt (als je bij eeen bepaalde entry vaak fontd ziet staan, op naar de volgende dus).

En voor de duidelijkheid, dit is inderdaad het kernel panic crashreport

Toch fijn dat ik um gevonden heb, maar de vraag blijft: wat nu? Wat kan ik met zo'n Kernel panic crashreport? Wat moet ik doen om iets op te lossen?

In zo'n kernel panic crashreport kan je aflezen wat er precies voor gezorgd heeft dat je PC vastliep.

In de laatste panic die je geplakt hebt is fontd de oorzaak. Dit is een goede zaak omdat fontd erop wijst dat er een softwareprobleem met je mac is, wat goedkoop te verhelpen is.

Ik zou nu graag willen weten of dit de enige oorzaak van kernel panics is, dus zou je nog eens in de console willen gaan kijken in hetzelfde bestandje als waar je dit uit hebt gehaald. Eens je daar bent, moet je eens kijken welk proces en welke locatie er op de eerste 2 regels vermeld worden.

Als het een aantal keer NIET fontd is, zou ik het graag hebben dat je er ook es zo eentje hier zet.

Nog een kleine raad: als je hier code plakt mag je het beperkt houden tot het algemeen infoblokje en wat de threads aan het doen zijn. In jouw laatste tekstje mag je alles vanaf "Binary Images" dus weglaten. Enkel Apple programmeurs of UNIX ingenieurs raken wijs uit die rommel :p

Een vraagje, want ik heb hetzelfde probleem al kan ik het niet direct aan safari koppelen, het gebeurd meestal tijdens gebruik meerdere zware programma's, iMovie, iPhoto, PS + safari en of als de mac wat langer heeft gesluimerd of geslapen (dat verschil moet ik ook nog even nakijken geloof ik...)

Hoe lang blijven die rapportjes staan want ik heb gisteren een vastloper gehad en adhv dit draadje kijk ik nu in console maar er staat niets meer in. Of doe ik iets verkeerd?

Ik heb via schijfhulp en smartutillity niets geks gevonden. Kan ik dan het beste nu een extra gebruikers account aanmaken om hardwarefouten uit te sluiten? Ik zie door de draadjes het bos niet meer hahaha...
