Citaat

Apple's many contributions to the European economy have resulted in an impressive 629,000 jobs.

With more than 1.2 million apps and over 75 billion downloads, the App Store has created an entirely new industry: iOS app design and development.

The app revolution has added nearly 500,000 iOS jobs to the economy in Europe since the introduction of the App Store in 2008. Approximately 50% of all direct and indirect app economy jobs in EU28 can be directly attributed to iOS.

Apple has paid more than $6.5 billion to developers across Europe, nearly 30% of the $20 billion Apple has paid to developers around the world to date. We also provide app developers with the tools and distribution they need to bring their best ideas to hundreds of millions of iOS customers worldwide.

Apple has been active in Europe for decades and now directly employs more than 16,000 people, having added 5,000 new jobs since 2011 we now have full time employees in 19 European countries.

In Cork, where our business is headquartered we have around 4,000 people in a range of roles, including supply chain and risk management operations, manufacturing and customer support. We are the largest private employer in Cork and our investment supports an additional 2,500 jobs in the local area.

Our 101 Apple Retail Stores draw hundreds of thousands of customers monthly to malls and high streets across 8 European countries (UK, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland), benefitting local businesses in each location.

Europe is home to 4,500 Apple suppliers, including several of our top 200 global suppliers. As an example of the key role some European suppliers play, many of the Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) in Apple products are designed and manufactured in Europe. This has resulted in thousands of jobs in France, Italy, Germany and Malta.

-New research shows Apple’s innovation and investment supports nearly 630,000 jobs across the EU
-Since we ignited the App revolution in 2008, roughly 500,000 jobs have been created in Europe that are directly attributable to the App Store. These jobs for coders, developers, entrepreneurs and others would not exist without Apple’s innovation and technology
-Apple directly employs 16,000 people in 19 European countries, adding 5,000 new jobs in the last three years
-Europe is home to 4,500 Apple suppliers, including several of our top 200 global suppliers

Please find below two examples of Dutch app developers:

Founded in 2000, AssistiveWare has grown to a worldwide leader in Universal Access and communication solutions for Mac and iOS. Dr. David Niemeijer turned to developing assistive technology after a friend became paralyzed in a car accident and needed an on-screen keyboard for his Mac. AssistiveWare's best known app is Proloquo2Go, the leading communication app for those with autism and special needs. The app has helped thousands of people around the world to better communicate. They have also pioneered the use of children's voices in assistive apps for U.S. and British English and are in the process of expanding support for other languages.

Bohemian Coding was founded in early 2008 and is based in The Hague. The company makes two award-winning Mac apps for designers, Sketch and Fonts, which are critically acclaimed around the world. The two apps won coveted Apple Design Awards in 2009 and 2012 and continue to be one of the leading innovators on the Mac App Store, pushing the boundaries of technology and helping inspire new generations of designers and creatives around the world. The team has grown from a single founder to seven full-time engineers and designers.

You can find detailed information in the Vision Mobile Report.

Tim Cook tweeted thanks to our “amazing developer community” and included a link to CNBC which confirms July was a record-setting month for the App Store, both in terms of revenue and the number of customers making transactions on the store.
