De nieuwe iPad Air is inmiddels te bestellen, en dus krijgen de pers en YouTubers dit nieuwe device alvast in handen. De reden daarvoor is simpel, vlak voordat een nieuw device uitkomt wil Apple graag dat de reviews live gaan, zodat er extra aandacht gegeneerd wordt.

En voor de nieuwe iPad Air is het zover, een device dat ondanks de hogere prijs waarschijnlijk voor veel mensen erg aantrekkelijk zal zijn. De reden daarvoor is simpel: de nieuwe iPad Air komt zo dicht bij de iPad Pro dat die verhoogde prijs relatief eigenlijk niet zo hoog is, omdat je erg veel waarde voor je geld krijgt. De vraag is natuurlijk of de reviewers dat ook vinden, en dat blijkt inderdaad zo te zijn. In de reviews hieronder kan je dat zelf lezen en zien.

That’s why I think it’s perhaps better to think of the iPad Air as a product for people who are not iPad Pro users, who don’t need to spend for the top-of-the-line iPad Pro features. Instead, the iPad Air is meant to fill a happy middle ground between the bargain-priced iPad and the high-end models. If you want to use the nicer Apple Pencil and the Magic Keyboard, you don’t need to buy an iPad Pro anymore, and that’s a good thing.

op nagenoeg alle vlakken is het model verbeterd ten opzichte van de voorganger. Het design is mooier, het scherm is groter, het model ondersteunt de betere accessoires en de chip is een stuk sneller. Het is zonder twijfel de beste iPad Air die Apple ooit gemaakt heeft en maakt in bepaalde opzichten de iPad Pro overbodig. De iPad Air biedt alles wat je in een iPad zoekt, al is dat voor sommigen misschien teveel van het goede.

Ik zag wel in een review op youtube dat de latency bij het schrijven met de apple pencil op deze iPad duidelijk opvalt met de 60Hz verversingsfrequentie van het scherm. Met de 120Hz van mijn iPad Pro voelt het in ieder geval heel natuurlijk.
