Personally, I would pay the extra money for a better OLED screen in a heartbeat, because I am extremely picky about displays. But I think most people can find way better ways to spend $250 than on things like infinite black levels and 60 percent wider dynamic range when viewing photos. And in that case, the iPhone XR is a no-brainer upgrade.
For those people, who haven't upgraded their iPhones in a while or who want a taste of what Apple is capable of without spending $1,000, the XR isn't just a great, cheaper iPhone. It's a great iPhone, period, and, for that matter, it's the iPhone most people should buy.
I haven't been this excited about an iPhone model in years. The iPhone XR is built to be the best everyday phone engine in Apple's iPhone lineup, based on things I value: price, battery, speed and key features like the camera. The iPhone XR is the sensible car with the good gas mileage, but with a supercharged engine under the hood and an understated spoiler on the trunk -- and I love that. It's what more Apple products should shoot for. It's a good size and, very nearly, a perfect phone for its price.
The iPhone XR has shockingly few trade-offs compared to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max given that it costs $250 to $350 less. In fact, many may prefer the iPhone XR over Apple's pricier flagships for two reasons beyond the cheaper price: more color options and longer battery life.
The new $750 iPhone XR is so much like the $1,000 iPhone XS that it's hard to see why you'd pay more.
I honestly wouldn’t overthink this one too much. The iPhone XR is made to serve a certain segment of customers that want the new iPhone but don’t necessarily need every new feature. It works great, has a few small compromises that probably won’t faze the kind of folks that would consider not buying the best and is really well built and executed.
If you buy one on installments, you'll be paying the equivalent of $43 dollars per month, as opposed to $56 per month for an iPhone XS with the same amount of storage. You'll have a great smartphone camera. Your phone's battery might last a whole weekend, the way mine did, and you probably won't miss the OLED display, since you won't be looking at the two different displays side-by-side every day like I've been. This iPhone was a steal, you'll think to yourself. Well. Maybe. Sort of.
If you’re looking for confirmation that you’re not going to lose out massively by going for the cheaper iPhone, we can confirm you’ll be fine. Yes, you won’t be able to stretch the handset to the absolute limits of iPhone performance, but for most that won’t be an issue. If you want the very best camera though, and you really crave the wow-factor that comes with an awesome portrait mode snap, then this might not be enough phone for you. Equally, if luxury and the very best-looking iPhone is what you need, the again you should probably upgrade to the XS range.
Last year’s iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were great new phones, but the differences between them and the all-new iPhone X were vast. They simply looked hundreds of dollars different. Not so with the differences between the XR and XS models this year.It sounds too good to be true, but the XR is almost as good as the XS models at a far lower price. Dollar for dollar, the XR is almost certainly the best iPhone Apple has ever made.
Owners of the iPhone X may not want to upgrade to this model, as the improvements and the lack of dual camera, as well as the change of display, probably isn't worth acquiring. Those new to the iPhone as a platform will accept the iPhone XR as a perfectly serviceable iPhone in its own right. Those owning pre-iPhone X models looking to upgrade will see an opportunity to get Face ID and the edge-to-edge display at an attractive discount. To some, the $250 or $350 saving over the iPhone XS or XS Max could be put towards accessories like a case or wireless charger, or event towards the cost of an Apple Watch. Regardless of how you look at it, the iPhone XR is a great smartphone at a great price. It's 75 percent of the cost of the iPhone XS, but offers practically all of the functionality a user could want.
The Apple iPhone XR Review: A Different Display Leads To Brilliant Battery LifeThe latest generation of iPhones have been out for a couple of months now – we’ve extensively reviewed the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max shortly after their official release. Missing in the review was the lower-tiered iPhone XR – the main reason for this being Apple deciding to release this variant a month after the original XS models had become available. Today, albeit a bit late, we finally got the chance to get our hands on a unit, and investigate some of the differentiating factors of the iPhone XR – such as the LCD screen and the phone’s overall battery life. The iPhone XR is an interesting product for Apple: It is clear that it aims to be a lower-cost alternative to the higher-end XS flagships. Yet at the same time it’s not directly an alternative to either the XS or the XS Max, and rather represents a model that squarely fits in-between its two higher-priced siblings.meer ...
