Een kleine week geleden presenteerde Tim Cook en de zijnen de nieuwe iPhone modellen op het toneel van het Steve Jobs Theater in hun eigen Apple Park, inmiddels komen de eerste reviews naar buiten.

Hieronder een bloemlezing daaruit, waarbij het opvalt dat veel reviewers hun lezers aanraden om te wachten op de goedkopere iPhone Xr. Dat lijkt trouwens niet echt nodig te zijn, het lijkt er sowieso al op dat de meeste mensen kiezen voor een Xs Max of een Xr.

Lauren Goode voor Wired

There are obvious differences between last year’s iPhones and this year’s iPhones, like the new processor and the giant display on the Max. But there are subtle differences too. It’s that subtlety that makes it hard to conjure up strong feelings around the new phones. It is an “S” year for iPhones, after all.

But in this case, it’s impressive incrementalism: There’s a noticeably faster chip, and a camera that captures a greater level of detail that you can actually see. Apple has nudged innovation in smartphones forward again, even if some of the results (like new apps that will use the new tech) have yet to be experienced.

As an upgrade over an iPhone X, I'd say you're going to have to love what they've done with the camera to want to make the jump. As a move from any other device, it's a huge win and you're going head-first into sculpted OLED screens, face recognition and super durable gesture-first interfaces and a bunch of other genre-defining moves that Apple made in 2017, thinking about 2030, while you were sitting back there in 2016.

I would not rush out to spend another $999 on the XS if you have an X, but if you’re already deep into a preorder, don’t worry: you will love the iPhone XS. It is indeed, more iPhone, and it will probably hold up for years to come. I definitely prefer the Pixel 2’s camera, but the iPhone XS isn’t that far behind, and it’s still a significant improvement over previous iPhones.

For everyone else, I think it’s worth waiting to see how the iPhone XR turns out before rushing in — it has the same processor and the same main camera for $750. The only major question is how good its 6.1-inch LCD will look in comparison to the OLED on the XS. But for that, we’ll just have to wait and see next month.

But here's the twist: That third new iPhone, the iPhone XR, may be the best pick for anyone upgrading from any iPhone other than the 2017 iPhone X.

It has many of the same features as the XS, but with a larger yet lower-resolution 6.1-inch LCD screen compared to the XS, and -- according to Apple -- better battery life. And it's $250 cheaper to start -- only $50 more than the iPhone 8's starting price this time last year.

Compared to last year’s iPhone X, the XS and XS Max are solid refinements across the board, but deliver a dramatic year-over-year step forward in photo and video quality. If you care about the image quality of the photos and videos you shoot with your phone, it’s hard to resist.

Gisteren de Xs ontvangen van Apple met folio hoesje.
 
Qua grootte hetzelfde als de X die ik had, maar lijkt lichter in gewicht.
Zeker sneller met Face ID, foto's moet ik nog uitvinden.
Daar komt bij dat ik nog moet wennen aan iOS 12 wat er op staat.
 
Komende dagen eens aan de tand voelen met diverse zaken.
Hopelijk komt de e-sim snel in NL.
