Heeft iemand van jullie deze pci SSD in zijn MacPro 5,1?

Levert dit een merkbare snelheidswinst op ten opzichte van een SATA III SSD op een OWC Accelsior S? Is dit ook merkbaar bij het opstarten en openen van een programma.?
Ik heb eens gesurfd naar Mac4us op Macfreak en het valt tegen, dus zou ik het toch maar in de States kopen.

Absoluut. Een Sata SSD kan namelijk op de volgende snelheden werken:
- Sata 2 = 300MB/s
- Sata 3 = 600MB/s
(je hebt altijd iets verlies in de praktijk, waardoor de snelste Sata SSD's rond de 550MB/s blijven steken.

Een NVME SSD en/of PCI-SSD daarentegen, kunnen tot 3000MB/s, vanwege de PCI3 slots waar deze in gestoken kunnen worden. En bij de nieuwste PC's die een PCI4 slot hebben gaat deze snelheid mogelijk nog omhoog tot ±7000MB/s.

Dus tegenover Sata 3, wat volgens mij in jouw Mac Pro zit, is een PCI3-SSD zo'n 4-5x sneller in de praktijk. Dat ga je vooral merken met opstarten van je systeem en programma's, maar verder met alles waar je SSD voor gebruikt wordt (bewaren van zware bestanden, renderen, het als scratchdisk gebruiken bij o.a. Photoshop in combinatie met zware bestanden, enz.).

En daar dan zelf een NVME ssd in plaatsen, zoals een Samsung 970 Evo of Samsung 980.
Dan ben je voor rond de 160 euro klaar (bij een 1TB SSD, bijv deze.
Je haalt dan snelheden van rond de 1100-1300MB/s, dus meer dan het dubbele van een SATA3 SSD (waar je ook een aparte kaart nodig voor zou hebben, want de ingebouwde SATA-poorten van je Mac Pro zijn SATA2).

Na dit meerdere keren gelezen te hebben snap ik nog steeds niet wat je hier schrijft.

Ik laat nog iets weten als ik het in huis heb.

Heb ondertussen de nvme-SSD in huis en geinstalleerd in slot 3 van mijn MacPro 5,1.
De snelheid gaat van 500 MB/sec naar 1400 MB/sec.
Het opstarten is alleen beduidend sneller in de safe boot mode.
Wat mij bevreemdt is dat Windows 10 via Parallels trager werkt 3200 passmark score > 3000 passmark score.
Ik heb ook Etrecheck even gedraaid en die vermeldt een serieus probleem: heavy CPU usage.

Avast heb ik op de nvme SSD eraf gegooid met de uninstaller van Avast maar blijkbaar zijn er nog resten. Ik ga die handmatig verwijderen. Een clean install kan ik niet doen, want dan zit ik met problemen om Adobe CS 6 opnieuw te installeren. Dat zal niet meer lukken. Ik zal FlipMac en Silverlight ook verwijderen. Bedankt.

Adobe CS6 kan nog steeds een aantal zaken die de Affinity apps niet kunnen.

Inmiddels bijna twee weken in gebruik. Heb DriveDX even gebruikt om de schijf te testen.
Alles is 100% OK, behalve de composite temperature die slechts een score krijgt van 58-62% wat toch wel erg laag is. Niettemin staat er OK bij. Er staat wel info bij dat de drive dicht staat bij oververhitting. De SSD zit in een cooler aangehecht aan de pci kaart. Moet ik mij zorgen maken over de levensduur?

anbergstra, ik heb ook een OWC Accelsior SATA III zoals jij in een MacPro 5,1 zitten, en die start snel op bij HFS+, maar niet bij APFS. (70 sec) Bij APFS en SafeBoot moet ik zelfs soms meer dan 5 minuten wachten. Ik haal snelheden van 520 MB/sec, toch wel beduidend minder dan wat ik nu heb met die NVMe pci-express die eigenlijk niet meer kost.
Wat een PCI-USB3 kaart betreft, ik heb er twee gehad maar soms zakt de snelheid zonder reden bij mijn Voyager dock tot USB2. Misschien ligt het aan de dock, want met sticks haalde ik wel altijd USB3 snelheden.
