Berlin, October 24, 2003 - Effective immediately, the website
www.pdfx.info offers a new version of 'PDF/X-3 Inspector (Freeware)' for
download that now also runs on Mac OS/X 10.2.3 or newer. PDF/X-3
Inspector is a plug-in for Adobe Acrobat 5.05 or newer, including Acrobat
6.0 Standard and Professional. It does not run with the free Adobe Reader
though. Platforms supported are now:
- Mac OS 9.1 through 9.2.2
- Mac OS/X 10.2.3 or newer
- Windows 2000 or XP
Besides providing extended platform support, further improved speed and
several minor improvements, both versions for Mac and Windows now come
with an enhanced installer.
PDF/X-3 Inspector is a free tool, funded by the German printing and media
industry association 'Bundesverband Druck und Medien' (www.bvdm-
online.de), the Swiss graphic arts research institute 'EMPA/Ugra'
(www.empa.ch/www.ugra.ch) and the international newspaper association
'Ifra' (www.ifra.com) with support from the 'European Color Initiative'
(www.eci.org) and the German graphic arts research institute 'FOGRA'
(www.fogra.org). It lets a user convert PDF files to PDF/X-3 and verify
PDF/X-3 files, including comprehensive analysis and reporting features.
PDF/X-3 Inspector has been implemented by callas software
(www.callassoftware.com) and is based on callas software's pdfInspektor2
and PDFengine technology. This is the same technology that Adobe
(www.adobe.com) has licensed from callas software as the 'Preflight'
module for 'Acrobat 6.0 Professional' which has been released in May 2003.
www.pdfx.info is a website dedicated to information and resources around
the use of PDF/X.
