I followed the advice in mrg5117's post and my iPhone is back online!
Thanks for your help, I really thought I was going to have to scream at them to give me a new phone.
There are lots of people out there still updating and the first level of support will try and convince you that it's the SIM and you need a new one.
Kevin, the senior advisor that helped me knew the issue as soon as I mentioned it and said he would reset my profile.
It took 1 1/2 days to complete the reset.
I was prepared to get bent out of shape about the quality of service from Apple's support team; but like any other time I called them, it was fast and professional.

Apple support zou dus een profile moeten resetten.
Enige probleem is dat hier in Nigeria geen apple support is en dat dus een dure nationale oproep gaat worden...
