I have connected an external USB disk to my media player. This hard disk is usually connected to my Mac computer. This external USB disk works correctly on my Mac computer. However, the media player does not seem the recognize the external hard disk?
When using an external USB hard disk on a Mac computer, the Mac computer will most probably have asked to format the hard disk.
If a Mac computer has formatted a hard disk, the file system on the hard disk will become the HFS or the HFS+ file system. This file system is ideal to be used on a Mac system, but this file system is not supported by the media player. The media player supports the following file systems: NTFS, FAT32 en EXT2 en EXT3.
FAT32 is supported by your Mac computer. However, FAT32 is not suitable since media files are often larger then 4GB which is the maximum file size of FAT32.
EXT2 and EXT3 are Linux file systems. Your Mac computer does not have support for these file systems. No programs are availabe to add stable EXT2 and EXT3 support.
NTFS is the only remaining option: Although a Mac computer does not have native NTFS support, it is possible to add NTFS support on your Mac computer. For Example: Programs which are able to add NTFS support are MacFuse, NTFS-3G and Tuxera*. These programs can be downloaded using the internet.
Once the correct programs have been installed, you can format the external USB hard disk using the NTFS file system (by using the menu of the media player or by using your Mac computer). Afterwards, you can copy your media files to the external hard disk which can be played by the media player.
*MacFuse, NTFS-3G and Tuxera is software which is developed by third parties. Eminent does not support this software.
Hint: If you are using Mac OSx 10.7, it may be advisable to use the 64-bit versions of the software (if available). 64-bit software may function better on Mac OSx 10.7!
