BBQ- Its all about the West Side for good BBQ
Dinosaur BBQ
646 W 131st St between Broadway and Riverside Drive
This is a restaurant right near the Fareway which is a huge supermarket that is pretty well known in NY because its basically one of the only large grocery stores in the city. The BBQ here is great and its a big place with great atmosphere. The mac and cheese isnt anything to write home about but my best friend Jordan loves the BBQ fried rice.
Daisy Mays
623 11th Ave and west 46th street
This place has less atmosphere but is full on taste. This is my all time favorite BBQ place. The pulled pork is killer and the cheesy corn side dish could keep me happy for the rest of my life! Great for a quick meal, you order at the counter and take your food to the picnic table style dinning area. They have great sweet tea that is served in mason jars!
Southern Home Cooking
Mammas
3rd street and avenue B
I just cant say enough about Mammas! The fried chicken and mac and cheese are calling my name from the other side of the world. Seriously I can hear it! This place has east village charm like no other. They do offer healthy options as well like fish and roasted chicken with great vegetable sides, but most often thats just not how I roll. Especially at mammas. Head to the counter pick what you like and take a seat. The place may not be beautiful but the home cooking sure is! But come hungry cause you will leave FULL! In my book this place is a must eat!
Italian
Angelos (Mulberry Street in Little Italy)- On the expensive side but amazing authentic Italian food (fun fact: my sister got engaged there!)
Cafe Napoli (Mulberry Street in Little Italy)- - Less Expensive than Angelos but the food is great, very good Lemoncello!!
Il Buco
(212) 533-1932
47 Bond St and Lafayette- This place has atmosphere to die for. It's place is on the expensive side but the atmosphere is worth it. The upstairs dining area is decorated like an Italian kitchen to the max, and if you want a more romantic setting make reservations to eat in the candle lit wine cellar, simply gorgeous. But the upstairs is equally impressive.
French
26 Seats
168 Ave B
Between 10th and 11th streets
(212) 677-4787
This place literally has 26 seats, it's small but quaint with great French food! And it's in my favorite neighborhood in the city.
Burgers
The Burger Joint (in the Le Parker Meridian Hotel)
118 W 57th St Between 6th and 7th ave.
Just writing about this place makes my mouth water. It is a hidden GEM in the lobby of the Le parker Meridian Hotel. If you walk towards the check in counter down a small hallway you will see a florescent sign of a burger. Head down that hallway and be led to heaven. It almost feels like you walked into a time machine. From posh hotel lobby to hole in the wall, It is simply a grill with some tables around it but believe you me you will not be disappointed. You can have a beer as well as a damn good milkshake! Oh and the brownies are quit nice as well. fill up here and they may need to roll you out of there. GOD I want a cheeseburger!
Corner Bistro
331 W 4th St between Jane st and 8th ave
This is a great place to get a beer and a burger. Not as good as the burger joint but still very good (thicker patties). This is also a great neighbourhood to stroll around. AND after your burger head over to Magnolia bakery for one of the best cupcakes around! Magnolia Bakery 401 Bleecker St and 11th street
Steak
Peter Lugars
178 Broadway and Driggs ave.
Brooklyn, NY 11211-6131
Phone: (718) 387-7400
Ok this is serious steak!! I know you can appreciate a rare steak and that is necessary for the Peter Lugar experience. Everything is served family style and is out of this world. This is the real deal there is no other way to say it. I highly suggest you make the trip to Brooklyn for this steak its an experience you will remember forever!
Ruths Chris
148 West 51st Street
New York City, NY 10019
Phone: (212) 245-9600
This is one of my regular steak places. The potatoes side dishes are killer! And Im a huge fan of surf and turf, the size of the lobsters are astonishing. All round great food! And unlike Peter Lugars there are options for non beef eaters.
Pizza
Vinny Vinchenz
1st ave. between 13th and 14th streets (right near my old apartment in Stuy Town)
Its all about the Sicilian slice here (in my opinion). Get a gorgeous corner slice heated up nice and hot!!!! Man I can taste it now. The marinara sauce here is out of this world so dont be scared of the Sicilian slice with marinara and garlic cause the sauce is just that good you dont need much else. I go for the traditional Sicilian most often, its just great. Oh and the good looking guy behind the counter is Vinny himself. My roommate smooched him back in the day. Oh the memories!
Patsys
1st ave. between 117th and 118th streets
Patsys has been franchised so you may see a lot of them around the city but dont be fooled, none of them are like the original and they are much more expensive. This place isnt fancy but you can feel the history when you walk in the door. Most of my favorite places are on the East side since thats where I have lived so if you are up to head up to the original Patsys in Harlem (Not Harlaam) for a slice of history and a damned good pizza! The food here is great as well and much less expensive than the other franchises around the city. My Dad loves this place and I love going to Harlem!!! Its usually pretty easy to find parking near by as well! Pizza is thin crust and just plain awesome! Oh and the manicotti is heaven!
Seafood
Blue Water Grill
31 Union Sq W at 16th street
(646) 233-2727
If your up for straying from your regular seafood joint GO HERE! I can never resist the blackened swordfish with the sweet potatoes hash! My family goes here on Christmas eve sometimes. There is live Jazz in the downstairs dining room. This place was actually an old bank so the décor is quite impressive and the food even better.
Asian Fusion:
China Grill
60 W 53rd St between 5th and 6th ave.
(201) 575-4974
Great food and a very impressive setting! The duck fried rice is out of this world! Lots of suits and loud bar crowd but thats NY and the food is memorable!
