Covert Surveillance of Data Act (SFS 2020:62) (the act is short-term legislation and will enter into force on 1 April 2020)For users (of computers and other electronic devices), the new Covert Surveillance of Data Act grants law enforcement agencies the authority, upon a special permit (in each specific case) from a competent Swedish court, to secretly install software or hardware on suspect users' devices or devices which the suspect in special cases have or will most likely contact. This implies that law enforcement agencies may access a suspect user's information before it is encrypted by VPN-services such as Mullvad VPN.
Daarop zitten drie 'standen':1. Don't block2. Block malware only3. Block malware, ads and trackers.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of the technology, there is no way to know with 100% certainty that a VPN service is not spying on you. While this may seem like an extraordinary statement coming from us given that ProtonMail also operates ProtonVPN, we really feel that it is in the public interest to shed light on the VPN trust issue. ProtonMail can achieve zero knowledge through end-to-end encryption, but it is technically impossible to build a zero knowledge VPN service. In other words, a VPN service may provide security and privacy, but never anonymity.
