Concurrentie tussen Siri en Samantha
In de film 'Her' van Spike Jonze onstaat er een liefdesrelatie tussen de mannelijke hoofdrolspeler, een eenzame schrijver, en de vrouwelijke assistent van een nieuw besturingssysteem. Iets dat veel van ons waarschijnlijk bekend in de oren zal klinken, want het lijkt duidelijk dat de inspiratie daarvoor zijn minst mede door Siri is geïnspireerd.
Bij Apple is ze dat natuurlijk ook niet ontgaan, want als je nu aan Siri vraagt of ze Samantha of Her kent of is, dan krijg je veel antwoorden waardoor duidelijk wordt dat ze het leuk vinden om die twee als concurrenten neer te zetten. Een paar voorbeeldjes:
Are you Samantha?
I'm afraid not. But she could never know you better than I do.
Are you her?
I'm not. I'm Siri.
Are you Samantha?
No. She is a fictional construct, whereas I am a virtual entity. But we can still be friends.
Are you her?
No. In my opinion she gives artificial intelligence a bad name.
Vanity Fair liet het er niet bij zitten en belde Scarlett Johansson, de actrice die de kunstmatige intelligentie in deze film speelt, en die laat duidelijk
weten wat zij er van vindt.
My manager just told me! He sent me a link to that." Thinking that Siri simply had an issue with her character, Johansson added, "As long as it's not about me personally, I can take the criticism. But if it was about me personally I would have to seriously fight back."
When we mentioned that Siri does go so far as to knock Johansson’s acting, her cool mood shifted. "She does comment on your performance though," we told the actress. "She says, 'Her portrayal of artificial intelligence is beyond artificial.'"
"Oh. My. God," Johansson responded, playfully hurt. "I feel like I've been betrayed. The other day I asked Siri how I looked and she said, 'You're the fairest of them all.' So she’s obviously playing both sides. What the hell?"
When we suggested that Siri was maybe just jealous—of the fact that Samantha is more advanced and able to convince grown men (like Joaquin Phoenix’s character Theodore) to fall in love with her—Johannsson still wasn’t convinced.
"What a backstabber, man," she joked. "Backstabber."
We zijn benieuwd hoe dit afloopt, als beide dames hun gevoel voor humor behouden dan lijkt de kans groot dat zij, en wij, er allemaal om kunnen blijven lachen.
