[img=right]http://www.macfreak.nl/base/data/news/images/vlc.png[/img]Als je filmpjes die je op het internet vindt wilt afspelen dan merk je snel dat QuickTime niet alle codecs aan boord heeft, maar dat is vrij simpel op te lossen door Perian te installeren. Dat werkt weliswaar prima voor de meer gangbare formaten, maar ook QuickTime in combinatie met Perian kent zijn limieten en dat verklaart de populariteit van de bijna-alleseter VLC.

Deze prima videospeler is al jaren gratis te downloaden en over het algemeen een prima en stabiel programma. Alleen waren de ontwikkelaars daar kennelijk nooit helemaal van overtuig, want bereikte nooit de status 1.0 en bleef daardoor altijd de suggestie houden dat het product niet af was.

Maar daar gaat verandering in komen, want het team werkt aan een release candidate die nu kennelijk wel het nummer 1.0 mag dragen (1.0.0 om precies te zijn). Mocht je nieuwsgierig zijn dan zijn de versies voor zowel Intel- als PowerPC processors hier te vinden.

Aangezien het en een release candidate gaat is het misschien verstandig, als je VLC al gebruikt, om de eerdere versie eerst even ergens anders te bewaren, bijvoorbeeld op je bureaublad. Mocht deze versie niet bevallen, dan kan je op die manier altijd makkelijk terug naar de vorige.
