Apple Computer is taking its retail store effort international next week, with plans to open a store in the Netherlands, according to people briefed there on Apple's efforts.
Patrick van Sloten, who manages Machouse, an independent Apple dealer in the Netherlands, said Apple has told dealers that it plans to open a store in Amsterdam.
Van Sloten says his understanding is that Apple's store will focus on consumers.
"That's no problem for us because we focus more on business applications," Van Sloten said. "The Netherlands is big enough for two Apple stores."
Spokeswoman Patrice Hijsterborg of Apple Netherlands said that the retail outlet won't be called the Apple Store, as "those only exist in America." An Apple U.S. representative would not comment on Apple's future plans, adding that all of its stores have been located in the United States.
We blijven dus hopen...
