The iMac remains a great entry-level desktop, for those who'd rather not be bothered buying an external monitor, keyboard, mouse, et al. It's also an ideal system for IT departments to deploy at scale in offices — or for the aforementioned dentist front desk. It's a big upgrade for those with an older Intel system, but anyone who has bought an iMac since 2021 needn't bother with an upgrade. It's not going to make a huge difference for daily tasks, and those who are excited to try Apple Intelligence will be able to on any Mac with an M1 or later.
If you have an Intel iMac and you've been putting off an upgrade, now's the time to do it. You're going to see a vast performance improvement, you can use Apple Intelligence, and you're going to appreciate the many other changes. You will have to buy USB-C adapters for your USB-A device, though. There's one reason for not buying the M4 iMac: you want a bigger one. Rumor has it that it could appear in 2025 but we've not heard of any substantial reports of such an iMac. If that's what you really want, you'll have to continue to hold out and track the rumors.

Dat maakt het instapmodel gelijk een veel legitiemere optie, zonder dat je praktisch verplicht bent om voor een van de onverminderd peperdure ramupgrades te gaan.Voor meer opslag betaal je wel nog altijd de hoofdprijs, maar daar kun je makkelijker omheen werken door een externe ssd aan te sluiten. Daarvoor heeft de iMac bovendien razendsnelle Thunderbolt-poorten beschikbaar. Ook het hogeresolutiescherm en de bouwkwaliteit van de behuizing blijven zelfs na een aantal jaar indruk maken.De M4-soc in de instapper van de nieuwe iMac is iets langzamer dan de M4 in de MacBook Pro of Mac mini, omdat Apple twee E-cores en twee gpu-cores heeft uitgeschakeld. Je krijgt echter nog altijd een uitstekend presterende processor die bovendien uitzonderlijk efficiënt is, waardoor het energiegebruik zelfs inclusief het scherm reuze meevalt.Hoewel de upgrades op papier klein lijken, is de iMac 24" (2024) in de praktijk een veel betere all-in-one-pc dan zijn voorgangers en daarmee onze Excellent-award waard.
