The true decision boils down to whether you think a bigger display, thinner bezels, EKGs, and blood oxygen are worth an extra $150. If you have to buy now, I’d recommend getting the 44mm SE 3 to mitigate the screen issue. But unless you have legitimate health reasons for needing the latter two metrics? Save that extra $120–$150 for a rainy day.
In other words, Apple’s entry-level watch is starting to look a lot less entry-level. In fact, for me, a certified Apple Watch enthusiast, it's the most exciting pick among the best Apple Watch options, looking at the upgrades available to this year's family alone.
The Apple Watch SE 3 offers many key upgrades over its predecessor, including an always-on display, a scratch-resistant screen coating, gesture controls, and sleep apnea notifications. It has numerous lifestyle features thanks to watchOS 26, accurate exercise monitoring, and detailed sleep tracking. The Series 11 has a nicer screen, additional sensors, and more safety features, making it our Editors’ Choice winner in the Apple Watch lineup. But if you don’t need all of those features and simply want a smartwatch for reliable connectivity and casual fitness tracking, the SE 3 will satisfy while saving you money.
