Morgen is de iPhone 16e in Apple Stores, en mogelijk ook al in andere winkels, te vinden. Dus ook het moment dat de eerste reviews van de iPhone 16e uitkomen, zoals we gewend zijn van Apple worden alle reviewers altijd ruim voor een lancering daarvan al voorzien.

De twee nadelen die in de reviews vooral voorbij komen zijn het ontbreken van MagSafe en de prijs, die veel mensen graag wat lager hadden gezien.

If you're clinging desperately to an older model and want a new iPhone for the least possible money, the 16E is the one to get. That's the job of the 16E: be the path of least resistance to blue bubbles. But for a more discerning customer the answer's not as clear-cut.

The best iPhone 16e feature? Battery life. Considering this is a 6.1-inch iPhone, which historically perform the lowest in battery tests, this is a welcome surprise—on one particular day when I used it for GPS navigation, music streaming, and picture snapping, it was left with around 30 percent before bed.

There's one upgrade that makes the iPhone 16e better than the 16, and that's the battery life. Apple has integrated its first cellular modem into the 16e, which is more power-efficient and a little smaller. This gives Apple's engineers more space inside the phone to fill with battery while also drawing less power.

Obviously, everything about the iPhone 16e is much improved over the iPhone SE 2022, but I don't want to refer to this new model as a value phone because it's not. This is why I think of the iPhone 16e as a new breed of iPhone because it takes some of the best parts about a modern iPhone, offering them at slightly lower cost. If you're willing to settle for those missing features — namely MagSafe, Dynamic Island, and all the extra video features — the iPhone 16e is an excellent choice.

The standard iPhone 16 is still the best iPhone for most people, thanks to its additional ultra-wide camera, faster 5G and Wi-Fi radios, and brighter screen, so it remains our Editors' Choice.

The Apple iPhone 16e is a fantastic entry-point to the company's smartphones with a lightweight design, vibrant display, serious performance and an intuitive software experience. It also excels in the battery department, while its simple camera system, despite being just a single sensor on both the front and back, delivers results that exceed some of the best smartphones available at the same price and even some that cost much more. There are, however, a couple of absent features, so if you're after an iPhone with the very best camera for instance, then the iPhone 16e may not be the model for you.

If you're hanging onto an SE or other older device, these improvements will feel significant. Still, you might find that recent models, sold at a discount, offer more value. I immediately missed my MagSafe accessories, which don't work with the 16e.

The iPhone 16e is an iPhone for people who don’t want to think much about their phone. But they do want an iPhone, not just any “whatever” phone. A just plain iPhone, with a good screen, good enough (and simple) camera, and great battery life. I think Apple nailed that with the iPhone 16e.

Bij belsimpel in de verlenging is een 16e 40 euro duurder, eenmalig, dan een 14. Hoe lang blij ik erbij dat ik geen nieuwe iPhone wil.

Het is inderdaad geen 'value phone'.
De SE's deden het gewoon te goed. Ondergegaan door hun eigen succes.

Als je niets geeft om het betere scherm, de mogelijkheden van de extra camera's, MagSafe en AirTags, dan pas komt de 16e in beeld als goede optie. Nu zal de prijs van de 16e komende maanden wel zakken en dan zal hij voor meer mensen interessant worden. Tot het zover is, staat de 'e' voor 'enorm slechte deal'. Want als deze telefoon aandacht wilt trekken, zal hij toch echt 'ping' moeten roepen; voor de rest is dit namelijk een telefoon die in geen enkel opzicht, positief of negatief, echt opvalt.

Eigenlijk wat John Gruber al zei:

De iPhone 16e is een iPhone voor mensen die niet te veel willen nadenken over hun telefoon. Maar ze willen wel een iPhone, niet zomaar een "wat dan ook"-telefoon. Een simpele iPhone, met een goed scherm, een goede (en simpele) camera en een geweldige batterijduur. Ik denk dat Apple dat met de iPhone 16e goed heeft gedaan.

En dat is niet de groep mensen die Tweakers lezen, maar wel een hele grote groep. 

Dat is inderdaad een hele grote groep, en ook al lees ik af en toe Tweakers & Macfreak, ik voel mij er toch door aangesproken.

De ultra-groothoek lens op mijn 13mini is leuk, maar zo vaak gebruik ik hem ook niet.
Wel wil ik mijn telefoon lang gebruiken dus lange softwareondersteuning op de moment dat ik hem koop is een must.
Dus eigenlijk heb ik niets meer nodig dan wat de 16e te bieden heeft maarja de prijs? Die mocht wat lager zijn. Het formaat mocht ook iets compacter, maar dat zal bij een illusie blijven.

Review van de iPhone SE 2025:

Na veertig seconden kwam een “completely unrelated image” in beeld en vond ik het wel mooi geweest. 
De recensent deed me denken aan een voetbaltrainer waar ik een hekel aan heb ook nog.

De aandachtspanne neemt af op een bepaalde leeftijd.
