After releasing minimal updates for the last couple of years, Apple announced at its big fall event the new Apple Watch Ultra 3, which adds a brighter, larger display, 5G cellular communication, satellite connectivity, a battery life increase of up to 42 hours and the ability to detect whether you might be suffering from hypertension.Though Apple Watch fans might still be satisfied with the Ultra 2 or the Apple Watch Series 10, the Ultra 3 is ready for those who want the most advanced smartwatch Apple has to offer.
The Watch Ultra 3 gets the same 5G support, hypertension notifications and Sleep Score as the Series 11, along with watchOS 26 upgrades like Workout Buddy and Liquid Glass. I need a few more days with the Ultra 3 before I can vouch for its 42-hour battery estimate, but it’s nice to see longer runtimes on an endurance watch.
One change Apple made here is using a 3D printing process to build the case from recycled titanium, though you won’t notice any difference in appearance. The display, however, is seriously improved. Like the Series 11 – and the Series 10 before it – the Ultra 3 now boasts an always-on Retina OLED display with an LTPO3 panel, giving it finer control over the refresh rate for additional smoothness in motion. This shines with watch faces like the new Flow, Waypoint, or Exactograph.
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it doesn’t need to. With the brightest and largest display, the longest-lasting battery, 5G and now satellite connectivity, it’s the ultimate Apple Watch for people who want everything Apple can offer on the wrist. It’s bulky, and $799 is still a rather major investment for a smartwatch, but if you’re looking for the most capable smartwatch on the market, the Ultra 3 is hard to beat. Do I think those with the Ultra 2 need to upgrade? Not at all, but those who love their first-generation Ultra might find the Ultra 3 has just the right amount of new features that matter.
You get a staggering 42 hours of battery life as standard, rising to 72 hours if you switch it into Low Power Mode. This is very impressive given the density of tech running on this device. You can also blast it up with a quick 15-minute charge to get 12 hours of battery life. Not bad
