In the beginning, it was a fantastic conversation piece, but I'd always respond to the "Should I buy one?" question with, "Hmm, I'd wait until the next version comes out."Nearly two months later, my answer is different. "Yes, you should buy one!" I say. "It's for the curious person!"That's because I've grown to love my Apple Watch. In fact, I am flat-out enthusiastic about it. So, what changed? The Apple Watch is by no means perfect. Most of the third-party apps are useless, and the sports band feels a little clammy and sweaty, which isn't ideal given how hot New York gets in the summer. But there are many great things, too. I love the fitness tracker, and the calendar, and the meeting reminder, and the fact that I can text (through voice recognition) and make calls if I don't feel like pulling out my phone. (And I do it. As discreetly as possible.) I love checking my heart rate and I really, really love that I've programed my watch face so I can always see the current temperature, along with other menial-but-important things like the date and the time the sun sets every evening. I love that it prompts you to stand up at least once every hour. (Because guys, sitting is bad for you.)
I have been reporting on Apple for more than 20 years now, and in all that time no product has had such an impact on my life as this little piece of hardware and software. I don't say that for dramatic effect, it has had a profound effect on the way I live. As you will read later, this is the most personal review I have ever written.
