Begin April 2017 werd duidelijk dat de relatie tussen Apple en het Britse Imagination Technologies aan het verzuren was. Het is Imagination Technologies dat in iDevices voor het videogedeelte zorgt, het ontwerp van de processor is van Apple. Maar Apple zou ook dat videogedeelte willen ontwerpen.

De soap die daaruit voortkwam kan je lezen in dit nieuwsbericht uit die tijd. Daarbij staan maar liefst drie updates, want het nieuws daarover bleef toen maar komen. Maar inmiddels lijkt dat een storm in een glas water, Imagination Technologies zelf meldt nu op de eigen website dat er een overeenkomst is getekend met Apple voor meerdere licenties over meerdere jaren. Het lijkt voor de hand te liggen dat de rechtszaken waar eerder mee gedreigd werd nu van de baan zijn.

Imagination and Apple Sign New Agreement

London, UK; 2nd January 2020 – Imagination Technologies (“Imagination”) announces that it has replaced the multi-year, multi-use license agreement with Apple, first announced on February 6, 2014, with a new multi-year license agreement under which Apple has access to a wider range of Imagination’s intellectual property in exchange for license fees.

Daaronder staat nog een stukje over Imagination Technologies zelf, met onder andere de informatie dat het bedrijf in 2017 door investeringsmaatschappij Canyon Bridge werd overgenomen. Maar dat kon je ook al vinden in de updates bij ons eerdere nieuwsbericht.
