Goedemorgen,

Omdat ik de laatste tijd veel meldingen krijg dat TrustedPeerHelper ineens gestopt is en ik op het internet allerlei ' oplossingen'  heb gevonden en tevergeefs heb uitgeprobeerd, kwam ik uit op Etrecheck. Deze laten scannen met dit rapport tot resultaat. Ik zie sommige dingen die niet kloppen maar niet kan verwijderen (b.v. NordVPN Threat Protection en F-Secure, welke software ik al tijden geleden verwijderd heb). Mijn Mac is bovendien ook vaak traag. Nu weet ik dat het niet meer de allernieuwste is maar toch. Ik hoop dat iemand mij kan helpen. Waarvoor alvast reuze bedankt. zie s.v.p. de bijlage.

Beste Duchie58: ik heb er even snel 'schuin' doorheen gekeken en hier zijn mijn (wellicht vervelende) conclusies:

1. Belangrijkste oorzaak van traagheid is het beperkte RAM van 8Gb. Dit is veel te weinig voor deze configuratie;

2. De configuratie staat vol met onnodige programma's, extensies en residuen van programma's (waarvan de plaats zelfs netjes in het EtreCheck rapport staat);

3. Wil je hier iets aan verbeteren dan heb je de mogelijkheid om alle 'rommel' handmatig te gaan verwijderen, maar beter is een volledige clean install, maar dan zonder onnodige hulpprogramma's.

In combinatie met je 8 GB geheugen is vooral de eerste oorzaak van de traagheid.

Een schone installatie zal al veel oplossen, en als je de kans hebt er geheugen bij te plaatsen; direct doen!

Ok helder! Dank voor jullie reacties. Ik zit al een paar jaar te 'wachten'  op een nieuwe iMac (evt. 32") maar dat zal er wel niet van komen. Dan eventueel de nieuwe Mac Mini volgend jaar. Maar deze tips zijn in ieder geval al het proberen waard. Geweldige snelle hulp!

Off topic: kan iemand s.v.p. mij uitleggen hoe ik (op de iPadAir M1) na het klikken op zo’n Etrechecklink weer terug kan naar de hoofdpagina van MacFreak? Er is geen < te vinden op de pagina en ik moet de iPad herstarten om weer bij MacFreak te kunnen.

Ja, was ‘t maar zo eenvoudig…
Vegen wil natuurlijk wel, maar terug naar MacFreak levert dezelfde (zojuist opgeveegde) pagina op.

Het is natuurlijk koffiedik kijken op afstand maar heb je dan een tabblad openstaan?
Als ik op de link kli verschijnt het rapport en rechtboven een kruis om te sluiten

Wat gek: als ik op de PDF link klik (iPhone en iPad, laatste OS) dan vraagt Safari of ik het bestand wil downloaden. Via het pijltje rechtsboven zie je dan de downloads, en als ik de PDF van daaruit open heeft die een kruisje rechtsboven om te sluiten..

Dat kruisje verdwijnt wel als je op de pagina tikt, maar met even opnieuw tikken in de pagina wordt het weer zichtbaar.

Hm… ja, dat laatste gebeurt nu ook bij mij. Wat me echter hiervoor (en dat was niet voor het eerst) overkwam, was dat ik na klikken een schermvullende witte pagina kreeg met in het blauw de vraag of ik wilde downloaden of openen in Good Reader. En daaruit was dus geen ontsnappen mogelijk. Zou het iets met Good Reader van doen hebben?

Dat lijkt dan waarschijnlijk, maar kan ik hier niet uitproberen.. Als de PDF opent in Goodreader zou dat los moeten staan van je Safari venster, maar misschien zit daar dan toch iets fout. Die vraag schermvullend krijgen is niet hoe Apple het zelf presenteert in ieder geval.

Het is dan ook heel irritant -vind ik- dat zo'n bestand hier als download staat; m.i. zou dat niet moeten mogen.

Off topic: kan iemand s.v.p. mij uitleggen hoe ik (op de iPadAir M1) na het klikken op zo’n Etrechecklink weer terug kan naar de hoofdpagina van MacFreak? Er is geen < te vinden op de pagina en ik moet de iPad herstarten om weer bij MacFreak te kunnen.

Als ik op de link klik, dan opent het pdf bestand in voorvertoning. Bij ‘meer’ kan je een andere app kiezen, of het bestand downloaden etc. 

Daarna zit je inderdaad ‘vast’ in MacFreak. Maar je iPad herstarten hoeft niet. Je hoeft alleen MacFreak naar boven te swipen. Dan opent MacFreak weer normaal.

Ik zou eens bij de instellingen van GoodReader kijken…

1. Belangrijkste oorzaak van traagheid is het beperkte RAM van 8Gb. Dit is veel te weinig voor deze configuratie;

Zoals vaker bij dit soort gevallen ben ik het niet direct met deze conclusie eens. EtreCheck vind dat ook niet, want waardeert de 'Performance' als 'Good'.
Wel ben ik het met je eens dat deze configuratie sowieso niet zo lekker is, en dat het een goed moment is om eens een echte clean install uit te voeren en alleen software installeren die van belang is, en dat zijn niet de virus scanners noch de cleanup apps.👍🏻

Als TS toch een tijdje wilt blijven werken met deze iMac, zou ie inderdaad wel eens kunnen kijken of ie wat van de benodigde RAM op de kop kan tikken om bij te prikken, want dat is op zich een fluitje van een cent. Het is de -kleine- moeite en het -weinige- geld zeker wel waard.

Een aantal van de programma's die je verwijderd hebt zijn niet geheel verwijderd waardoor macOS ze nog draait op de achtergrond. Zo heb je al F-Secure en NordVPN voorbij zien komen.

Volg de locaties waar die staan en verwijder ze daar handmatig. Meestal is dat in de bibliotheek (volgens mij kun je daar naartoe door de ALT-knop in te drukken en in de menubalk naar Ga te gaan, wanneer je Finder actief hebt.)

Mijn advies: een clean install!
Zorg voor een goede backup (liever 2 dan 1), voor alle gebruikers inclusief gedeeld.
Vergeet alle antiviruszaken, die veroorzaken alleen vertraging en introduceren beveiligingsrisico's ipv ze weg te nemen.
